ELD After-School Homework Help
Excellent high school and junior high school volunteers led by Ms. Song actively help those students who need help with their studies. We are pleased to see that some students have begun to challenge more difficult math topics, which is really gratifying. We hope that all parents can make full use of the ELD academic tutoring and after-school tutoring programs provided by the Susan Middle School Chinese American Parents Association (SMS-CAPA) to provide more learning support for their children. We believe that with the joint efforts of parents and schools, students will make greater progress. We at Suzanne CAPA provide a free ELD & Homework Help Program to provide English learning and homework guidance for Suzanne students. Courses are held in small classes, and offline classes are usually held in the Walnut Library. Online classes can also be arranged according to needs. The course is tutored by outstanding volunteer high school students. Currently, more than 20 high school students are participating in tutoring, and each high school student can tutor up to 3 students at the same time. If there are students who need help, please join our ELD & Homework Help group to learn more.

Each year, the American Cancer Society Youth Ambassadors (ACS-YA) host the American Cancer Health Symposium at City of Hope, focusing on cancer prevention, treatment, and healthy living in Asian communities. In September, the event features Relay for Life, a community favorite that includes a parade, live performances, and a showcase of media contest entries from the current year. It’s one of ACS-YA’s biggest events and often draws coverage from local newspapers and TV stations. The ACS-YA Health Conference in November brings members together to connect, share ideas, and build a strong, welcoming community for youth passionate about making a difference.

Donation of Old Clothes The Suzanne Chinese Parents' Association will host a donation drive for old clothes from October 23rd to October 25th, inviting all faculty, parents, and students to participate! This activity aims to raise funds for the school by donating old clothes, shoes, blankets, bags, backpacks, and stuffed toys. All donated items should be in good condition. Parents are asked to pack items in new 13-gallon garbage bags for easy collection and transport. Please write your name and grade on the donation bags so we can verify volunteer hours. Detailed information will be on the poster. Event Schedule: October 23rd: 8:00 AM - 1:30 PM: Collection boxes will be set up at the school's office entrance; 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM: Volunteers will assist with the collection at the upper parking lot. October 24th: 8:00 AM - 12:10 PM: Collection boxes at the office entrance; 12:10 PM - 1:10 PM: Volunteers will assist at the upper parking lot. October 25th: 8:00 AM - 1:30 PM: Collection boxes at the office entrance; 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM: Final collection drive. To encourage participation, students will receive one volunteer hour for each donated 13-gallon bag. Students can recruit unwanted items from family and neighbors to help raise more resources for the school while accumulating volunteer hours. All proceeds from this drive will directly support the school's operations, benefiting students and staff. As a public school, we need more parent support and funding to ensure our school and students receive the best help and resources. CASA Project
The Chinese American Student Alliance (CASA) at Suzanne Middle School – This year’s project: Our plan is to work with a local recycling company to collect kitchen waste from community residents and convert it into high-quality organic soil. We have already proposed this idea to the principal in a meeting, hoping the school can provide a piece of land on campus to be transformed into an organic farm. Students will design and install an automated irrigation system themselves. The recycling company will supply various vegetable and fruit seeds, and students will be responsible for year-round planting, using sensors to record soil temperature, humidity, and plant growth data. After harvest, we will collaborate with the city government to distribute the organic produce to residents free of charge, encouraging more families to grow their own food while promoting the importance of composting and environmental protection. This project is not just about “growing vegetables.” It combines Community Service (helping residents, promoting environmental awareness), Environmental Science (recycling kitchen waste, cultivating organic soil, monitoring data), and Engineering Design (student-developed automated irrigation system). Under the guidance of Mr. Lu, our student team will use this project to compete in three major categories of SkillsUSA. We hope this initiative will help more people understand the value of recycling and turn waste into green resources that benefit the community. Of course, the entire process will also require the help and support of parent volunteers to succeed. ⸻ What is SkillsUSA? SkillsUSA is a nationwide career and technical student organization in the United States, dedicated to hosting skills competitions, workplace readiness training, and leadership activities for middle school, high school, technical school, and college students. Its core mission is to help students develop skills in three main areas: Technical Skills – such as engineering design, environmental science, culinary arts, automotive repair, construction, agricultural technology, and more. Workplace Skills – teamwork, communication, time management, problem-solving, and other essential professional abilities. Lunar New Year Ceremony
Around the time of Lunar New Year, Suzanne CAPA hosted an after school event where students and teachers could enjoy Chinese food, learn about Chinese calligraphy, and watch performances. Performances included music with traditional Chinese instruments, traditional Chinese dance, and martial arts. At the end, all the teachers received goodie bags and a a few students who won a game got to take home a red envelope.

Raised $4600 for Suzanne Science Bowl Regional Competition. Continuous efforts to support the school's educational and operational needs.
